He intro-duced Poland China hogs into his section of the State. He livedto see the land he acquired at .25 per acre reach a value of0,000. James M. Rorb was born March ten, 1836, at Service, Beavercounty. Pa. he died at Albia, Iowa, January 9, 1909. He removedto Monroe county, Iowa, in 1853, settling in Bluff Creek township.He enlisted in the 13th Iowa Infantry, serving 3 years and beingseverely w^ounded. He was admitted to the bar about 1882. Heserved three terms as sheriff of Monroe county and as a Representa-tive in the Eighteenth and Nineteenth General Assemblies.

This is the way it was started: In the year 1848, I wasthe youngest hand in the printing-workplace of The Mail, at War-ren, Pa. This was a small six-column paper, performed at thattime by a single of my former schoolmates, Mr. Ephraim Cowan.He and I had roomed with each other in the small old Academy atJamestown, Chautauqua county, N. Y., some years before.He was many years my senior and had preceded me sometime in receiving into company. He was the editor and publisherof The Mail. It was printed on an old-fashioned Ramage^press. If I bear in mind appropriately, the two sides of the frame ofthe press had been created from a couple of hardwood planks.The platen was of w^ood and was only huge sufficient to cover asingle web page of the paper. It was necessary to run the bed ofthe press which held the types half way beneath and pull theplaten down upon that web page. Then the lever was allo
